SE ASIA - DAY 36 - CHIANG MAI - Free and Easy

I have planned to stay in Chiang Mai and relax for a day.
Removed both side panniers and rode to Doi Suthep mountain. There are two places worth visiting, the Wat Prathat and the Bhuping Palace. It was about 24km away from my hotel and it took about 1hr to reach there.

Traffic in Chiang Mai city is very slow, luckily, the temperature is abou 16degree celcius and it was bearable. Then, it's going up the mountains again. Stopped by a viewpoint with a good view of the entire Chiang Mai city. Spotted a plane taking off from the airport nearby.

It was a clear day with totally no clouds in the sky. Isn't it beautiful ?

The translated Chinese looks funny, but we get the point. They no longer rent out clothes to cover your ankles, so ladies, be prepared to bring along a scarf to cover your ankles if you are wearing shorts.

Parked my bike here at a slope, was worried that the bike might topple and cause a domino of bikes, but luckily it was fine. Entrance fee to the temple is 30THB.

Then it's staircase and more staircase.

After some breathless climb, finally reached the top.

Saw this cute little black kitten who is well prepared for the cold weather.

Someone from Tampines Singapore donated 50k THB and got their name up beside a big bell.

Many years back, I was here and remembered hanging a bell with wishes written on it. They have totally removed it all.

Another viewpoint from the top. Too bad weather wasn't that clear.

Then to the Bhuping palace, it was suppose to be a winter resort for the Royal family. We get to visit their garden, but the palace is out-of-bounds to tourist.

50THB for the entrance ticket.

You get to see all kinds of flowers, including many breeds of roses.

I guess this was the palace.

Giant Bamboo forest.

Came back to the hotel and had lunch. Braised pork leg rice, added crispy roast pork for 50THB, one of my favorite Thai food.

Relaxed at the hotel and then rested for the rest of the afternoon.
Dinner was settled at a nearby Hong Kong style restaurant. As it was Winter Solstice Festival (冬至)yesterday, the Chinese tradition is to eat dumplings or mochi balls during this day. The closest I can find are prawn dumplings and soup dumplings, with an add-on portion of roast duck, yummy. 180THB with a big bottle of LEO.

Tomorrow, I will be commencing the Mae Hong Son Loop on the counter-clockwise direction, starting with Pai.
